The Bentley Park Sports Complex in Bixby will be one the best youth parks in Oklahoma. The complex features two quads of baseball, two quads of softball, an international soccer field, twelve youth soccer fields, a super playground and splash pad, horseshoe pits, sand volleyball, bocce courts, and walking trails connecting to the main walking trail by the Arkansas river.
Bentley Park began as a 47-acre park. In April of 2006 the city council traded for 24 more acres, enlarging the park to meet the needs of our youth sports organizations. The additional land enables us to have more parking and more room for the athletes and their parents or spectators. The current total acreage in Bentley Park and adjacent Keas Field is approximately 100 acres.
The people of Bixby overwhelmingly (80%) passed a six million dollar bond to finance the construction of Bentley Park in April of 2006. Work is underway on the baseball quads in Bentley Park. A $297,000 plus bid was let in February 2007 for the work, with an expected finish date of July 2007. Construction in the rest of the complex will begin in the summer of 2007 with an expected late 2008 or early 2009 completion.
Businesses in Bixby came together to support the Bentley Park Sports Complex through sponsoring various aspects of the park. Naming and sponsorship rights for each of the quads will be sold on a ten-year basis, and the money raised will be put back into the complex for maintenance and capital improvements. Naming rights for each of the soccer fields and for the super playground will be sold for ten-year sponsorships. The trails, bocce court, sand volleyball and the splash pad sponsorships will be sold on a yearly basis that will automatically renew each year. We will be giving more information on the sponsors at a later date. This will be included in the Mayor's Quarterly Updates on the new city website. |
